Frescobaldi Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino
Constructed in 1100 to guard the road from the port at Talamone to Siena, the castle has belonged to the Frescobaldi family since 1989. Already one of the top-quality producers of Brunello di Montalcino in the late 19th century, the tenuta of Castelgiocondo yields massively-structured wines of great complexity and balance.
TASTING NOTESAromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, violet, underbrush and warm spice emerge in the glass, along with a whiff of camphor. Full-bodied and enveloping, the structured palate delivers raspberry jam, dried black cherry, licorice and tobacco alongside firm fine grained tannins. It closes on an espresso note.
FOOD PAIRINGBrunello is a great wine that deserves something substantial, a fine roast leg of lamb with rosemary, pot roast pheasant, roast squab with truffles or that most famous dish of all Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Tuscan-style steak.
